Chinese center Li Yueru departed for the United States on Saturday evening to play for the Chicago Sky in the current Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) campaign.

"It's my dream to play in the WNBA. I feel quite happy that I've made it. Through twists and turns, I'm on this flight of dreams to pursue my dream," Li wrote on Weibo.

Li, 23, was drafted by the Atlanta Dream in the third round (35th overall) of the 2019 WNBA Draft. The Los Angeles Sparks acquired her rights in February 2022, and the Chicago Sky later acquired the rights in March.

Li expressed her readiness to embrace the challenges. "Maybe I cannot fully exploit my skills in a new and unfamiliar environment, but I will go all out to live up to people's expectations and support," she wrote.

As a three-time Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) champion, Li has played for the Chinese national team in the FIBA Asia Cup, the FIBA World Cup and the Tokyo Olympic Games in recent years, averaging 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and shooting 78.6% from the field at the Tokyo Olympics.

"I know it's not easy to get this opportunity and I will cherish it," Li wrote, expressing her wishes to showcase a better self in the upcoming major tournaments.

Prior to Li, another Chinese center Han Xu played for the New York Liberty in the ongoing 2022 WNBA regular season, averaging 10.0 points in her two appearances thus far.
