Former Guangzhou FC forward Alan has returned to Fluminense, 12 years after leaving the Brazilian club to play in Europe and China.

The 32-year-old arrives as a free agent, having parted ways with the Chinese Super League side in February.

"(He) underwent a medical and ... has signed a contract that runs until June 2024," read a statement on Fluminense's official website on Tuesday.

Alan made 112 appearances across all competitions for Guangzhou, scoring 59 goals and providing 32 assists. During his time in China, he also had loan spells with Tianjin Tianhai and Beijing Guoan.

"I've come home. There's no way to explain in words what I'm feeling," an emotional Alan told reporters. "My family and I are very excited. It's a unique moment and I hope to have a great comeback. A lot of people have sent me messages of encouragement. The fans have always been supportive and I hope to be able to repay their faith in me."

The striker was part of the Fluminense team that won the 2010 Brazilian Serie A title before leaving the following season to join Austria's FC Salzburg.

Fluminense are currently sixth in the 20-team Serie A standings with 18 points from 13 matches, 10 points behind leaders Palmeiras.
