Newly-promoted Wuhan Three Towns extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 2-1 victory against Guangzhou FC in the seventh round of the 2022 Chinese Super League (CSL) on Thursday.

Guangzhou took the lead in the 20th minute as Yan Dinghao converted a penalty kick into goal. Two minutes later, Romanian striker Nicolae Stanciu tied the score for Three Towns by sending a powerful free-kick into the right corner of the net.

In the second half, Three Towns further demonstrated its prowess to keep Guangzhou's goalkeeper busy. In the 47th minute, Xie Pengfei slotted home and secured the match 2-1 for Three Towns.

"The result added three precious points to our standings. It was a hard-fought victory, as we tried our own way to tear their line of defense, meanwhile looking for opportunities to score," said Pedro Pineda, head coach of Three Towns.

"So far, our team's results have been okay, and I want to thank the players for giving their best from the first game until now," Pineda added.

After the match, Wuhan Three Towns, with six victories and one tie, sat atop in the standings with 19 points, followed by Shanghai Shenhua and Shandong Taishan.

Also on Thursday, Hebei FC cruised past Wuhan Yangtze River 2-1, while Beijing Guoan held Chengdu Rongcheng to a goalless tie.
