Former champion Simona Halep beat the U.S. player Amanda Anisimova in straight sets to reach the women's singles semifinals at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Halep, 30, needed only one hour and three minutes to defeat her opponent ten years her junior, 6-2, 6-4.

The 16th seed from Romania has won all five matches in straight sets so far at this year's Wimbledon.

The 2019 champion couldn't defend her title in 2020 as the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and she missed last year's competition with a calf injury.

Halep will now play Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, after the 17th seed came from behind to see off Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
