Bayern Munich is continuing its shopping tour after the departure of star striker Robert Lewandowski coming along with a revenue of 50 million euros.

Reliable media reports speak of Juventus' Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt on his way to the club this Monday for a medical check after Bayern agreed a deal worth 70 million euros plus possible bonus payments of up to 10 million with the Italian side.

The 22-year-old openly spoke about his intention to leave Juve and join Bayern. Reports speak of him signing a contract until 2017 before joining Julian Nagelsmann's team on its promotion tour in the U.S..

This Tuesday, the reigning German champions cross swords with MLS side DC United, followed by a friendly against Premier League champions Manchester City this Friday.

Following the signing of former Liverpool star Sadio Mane, De Ligt is Bayern's second big deal drawing a picture of the clubs' ambitious goals this season.

The Dutch international is said to cover a leading role in the team as he is to turn into Bayern's defensive leader over the coming years.

De Ligt is the second most expensive purchase in the club's history after Lucas Hernandez, who came for 80 million euros from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

The experienced defender is an important piece when it comes to Bayern's future tactics, as Nagelsmann has pledged to count on an offensive game style.

The deal can be seen as a mark of the club's efforts to win the 2023 UEFA Champions League, as the clubs' current defenders such as Dayot Upamecano, Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard lacked leadership qualities.

Additionally, Niklas Sule and Jerome Boateng have recently left the club.

Reports speak of a possible transfer of one of the defenders to support further buying. Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is in negotiations with French side Rennes to finalize the signing of 17-year-old striker Mathys Tel for around 25 million euros.

Rumors also speak of RB Leipzig midfielder and Austrian international Konrad Laimer as a Bayern target.

As goodbye tears around Lewandowski seem to have dried pretty quickly in the light of the newest transfers, the new arrivals increase the pressure on coach Nagelsmann to create substantial international success.

De Ligt seems the right man to close Bayern's back door, as the team has shown weaknesses in having to deal with fast counterattacking opponents.

A quarterfinal exit in last season's Champions League campaign against Villareal is said to have caused deep disappointment in Munich.

Now Bayern decided to take their faith into their own hands and fill the gaps. With De Ligt and Mane, the club's confidence seems to have returned.

After extending his contract until 2026, German international Serge Gnabry has hit the nail on the head by stating: "We intend to do something big in the Champions League and I guess we can."
