Japan claimed two opening wins in the EAFF E-1 Football Championship on Tuesday, as its men's team crushed China's Hong Kong 6-0 while the women's team edged past South Korea 2-1.

2022 EAFF E-1 Football Championship is held in Ibaraki and Aichi of Japan from July 19 to 27. The men's tournament features Japan, China, South Korea and Hong Kong (China), while the women's tournament is attended by Japan, China, South Korea and Chinese Taipei.

In the men's tournament, Japan was utterly dominant and up by three goals within 21 minutes, as Yuki Soma reaped his maiden international goal with a stunning free kick just one minute into the game, on top of Shuto Machino's twisting header and Takuma Nishimura's low-strike.

Japan almost got the job done in the first half, as Nishimura fired in a missile in the 39th minute.

The host showed no mercy after the break as it added another two in a span of one minute with Soma's smart back-heel flick and Machino's follow-up.

In an earlier fixture of women's tournament, Hinata Miyazawa sent Japan ahead, Fuka Nagano sealed the win after Ji So-yun's equalizer.
