Lebanon defeated China 72-69 on Wednesday evening to make the FIBA Asia Cup semifinal.
The Lebanese squad led 17-13 in the first quarter, 22-17 in the second quarter and 18-15 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Chinese team made an aggressive comeback 24-15 and once took the lead 64-63 after Xu Jie made a 3-pointer jump shot around four minutes to go.
Wael Arakji of Lebanon, who made three 3-pointers, scored 32 points and grabbed two rebounds. His teammate Jonathan Arledge added 16 points and 11 rebounds.
On the Chinese side, Zhou Qi scored 22 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. Xu Jie, who made three 3-pointers, scored nine points and had two rebounds, with Quan Gu making nine points and five rebounds. Only Sun Minghui and Hu Mungxuan played over 30 minutes.
At a press conference after the match, China's head coach Du Feng expressed his apology for all fans particularly in China.
Du also asked fans not to put the blame on the players, but on him instead.
