Veteran Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez said Tuesday that he has reached a preliminary agreement to return to his original club Nacional.

The 35-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid by mutual consent last month, will reportedly be tied to the Montevideo club until the World Cup to be played in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.

"Hello everyone. I want to thank you for all the affection that my family and I have been receiving in the last few days. It has been impressive and emotional," the former Barcelona and Liverpool player said in a social media post.

"This opportunity to return to Nacional was inevitable. We have a pre-agreement with the club. In the next few hours I hope to get all the details right. I want to enjoy this new stage and send a hug to everyone thanking you for the affection," he added.

Suarez, who has also been linked with AC Milan, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund and River Plate, is expected to return to Europe in the 2023 January transfer window.
