Timo Werner returns to RB Leipzig from Chelsea

Striker Timo Werner has rejoined Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig with immediate effect, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old returns after two years at Chelsea and has penned a four-year deal, which will keep him at Leipzig until June 2026. Leipzig's record goalscorer will wear number 11.
"Timo Werner's signing is a special transfer for us. We had four great years together in Leipzig, during which Timo became Leipzig's record goalscorer and a national team player. His return is also of great importance to our fans, because Timo was a crowd favorite and a role model in Leipzig," said RB Leipzig's commercial leader Florian Scholz.
Werner first played for Leipzig from 2016 until 2020, scoring 95 goals in 159 competitive appearances. His performances for the Red Bulls earned him a call-up to Germany's national team in 2017. For Germany, Werner has 24 goals from 53 games.
"I'm very happy to be playing for Leipzig again from now on. It was a great time from 2016 to 2020 in which we caused a sensation as a league newcomer. It was a worthy farewell for me back then, going as a record goalscorer. But that's also a bit of the past and now I'm looking ahead, because Leipzig developed over the past two years, just like I have," Werner told the club's official homepage.
Leipzig started the Bundesliga season with a disappointing draw against Stuttgart, and will now face Cologne on Saturday.
