Xie Jun, a four-time world champion of women's chess, was elected deputy president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on August 7 at the FIDE Congress 2022 held in Chennai, India.

During an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Xie said that chess has exerted substantial influence on her personality and life. "A chess teacher doesn't only teach how to play chess, it is more important to cultivate the integrity of students during the process," Xie said. According to Xie, playing chess could greatly bolster one's ability to study and react.

Being a council member of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), Xie has actively participated in the public interest events organized by the CSCLF over the years, and taught children about chess knowledge and skills.

On August 8, China's first National Sports Day, Xie shared her stories with children at a special episode of the online program Master Lectures for Children jointly supported by the CSCLF and Tencent.

Xie's election as vice president of FIDE is a recognition of her work in the professional field. Speaking in the lecture as a teacher, Xie shared with young people life philosophy contained in chess, which vividly explains her educational concept of “cultivating integrity through chess playing.”

The CSCLF wishes Xie to make more contributions to the development of chess in the future and more children to get to know chess through the Master Lectures for Children and fall in love with it.
