Former Ajax goalkeeper Stanley Menzo has been appointed head coach of Beijing Guoan, the Chinese Super League side said on Monday.

"Today we officially announce that Stanley Menzo has been hired as the head coach of the senior team of Beijing Guoan club," the Beijing club said in a brief statement.

The 58-year-old takes over from Sui Dongliang who has served as caretaker coach after Xie Hui resigned in the wake of Beijing's 5-1 loss to Wuhan Three Towns in mid-August.

Menzo, with no illustrious coaching record to his name, is no stranger to Beijing Guoan fans, having coached the club's reserve team from January 2019 to November 2020.

Beijing Guoan, who lost 2-0 to Shanghai Shenhua on Friday, currently sit ninth in the Chinese Super League table.
