The Chinese Ski Association (CSA) has announced that the China Youth Ski & Snowboard Open, a new event after the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, will be held in November.

Skiers and snowboarders aged between 9 and 17 can sign up for the event, which includes alpine skiing giant slalom, snowboard parallel giant slalom, snowboard slopestyle and cross-country skiing. The event is open for both pros and beginners, and will take place in seven competition zones across the country.

Zheng Liangcheng, vice president of the CSA, said the event will follow international standards, and referee training will be organized in each competition zone to cultivate a group of local professionals, which is conducive to further developing winter sports nationwide.

The event also serves as a platform for athletes to be selected into the national training team.

"Most of skiers and snowboarders in the Chinese national team come from sports schools or professional teams. This event provides an opportunity for the youth to show themselves and reach new heights," Zheng added.
