China wins silver at Tashkent Judo Worlds

Chinese judoka Ma Zhenzhao won silver in the women's 78kg category to secure the nation's first medal at the 2022 Judo World Championships on Tuesday.

Ma defeated Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko from Ukraine, but was held down by the category's winner Mayra Aguiar from Brazil. Beata Pacut-Kloczko from Poland shared third place with Lytvynenko.

Host judoka Muzaffarbek Turoboyev topped the men's 100kg competition with a win over Canadian Kyle Reyes. Zelym Kotsoiev from Azerbaijan and Michael Korrel from the Netherlands took bronze medals.

After six competition days, Japan led the medal tally with five golds, followed by Brazil and Uzbekistan, while China jumped to 12th.

The Judo World Championships, drawing 571 judokas from 82 countries and regions, conclude on Thursday.
