Beijing recently released a guideline for building more public sports facilities, aiming to promote fitness and physical activities among citizens.

According to the guideline, every community should have a small fitness center that facilitates at least three types of sports activities as well as a small park for sports. Newly-built community should have at least one non-standard soccer field.

The document also suggests that public sports facilities at the city level are located near urban metro stations, and are equipped with sports stadiums, sports venues, and natatoriums. In addition to sports stadiums, sports venues, and natatoriums, public sports facilities at the district level should have large fitness centers and large sports parks.

The guideline says that citizens could have access to at least 12 types of sports activities at large fitness centers and at least six types of sports activities at medium-sized fitness centers. Large sports parks should have 10 sports fields, including soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and running tracks. The length of a running track should be more than 2 kilometers.

The guideline was released on the website of the Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation. The new rules will be in effect starting Jan. 1, 2023.
