The Guangdong Southern Tigers ended their two-game losing streak after claiming a 131-108 victory over the Shanghai Sharks in the 2022-2023 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Friday.

The 11-time champion Guangdong opened the season with an unexpected 1-3 record before Friday's match against Shanghai.

Guangdong finished the first quarter with a 40-13 lead, but the Sharks managed to come back to cut the deficit to 10 points before heading into halftime. Coming back from the lockers, Marshon Brooks helped Guangdong rebuild a 20 points advantage in the third quarter, where Shanghai never came back.

Brooks scored 29 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished seven assists to lead Guangdong's seven double-digits scoring players. Romelo Trimble had a game-high 35 points for Shanghai but couldn't snap his team's three-game losing streak.

Dominique Jones finished with 29 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds as the Jilin Northeast Tigers edged the Qingdao Eagles 97-95 in overtime.

Jilin led 66-53 after three quarters. Eugene German's 3-pointer gave Qingdao an 85-83 lead with one minute and 15 seconds left before Jones made a layup that sent the game to overtime. Jiang Weize hit a 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining to nail the victory for Jilin, making German's game-high 43 points in vain.

In another two games, the Jiangsu Dragons beat the Sichuan Blue Whales 91-71 while the Tianjin Pioneers defeated the Shandong Heroes 96-95.
