Beijing edge out Qingdao in low-scoring game

The Beijing Ducks earned a hard-fought 75-71 victory over the Qingdao Eagles, while the Nanjing Monkey Kings cruised past the Beijing Royal Fighters 107-87 for their third straight win in the 2022-2023 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Tuesday.

The game between the Beijing Ducks and Qingdao was highlighted by pressing defense, with both teams seeing over 20 turnovers while neither scoring more than 20 points in any quarter.

Under solid defense, the Beijing Ducks ended the first quarter at 17-16. Ty Leaf led Beijing to expand their advantage to nine points at 33-24, before Lyu Junhu's consecutive 3-pointers helped Qingdao cut the deficit to two points at 37-35 by halftime.

In a tight fourth quarter, Beijing nailed down the victory in the last minutes as Li Muhao hit a clutch follow-up tip-in and Tian Yuxiang made two free throws.

Leaf contributed a game-high 24 points plus 14 rebounds and four assists for the Beijing Ducks. Duop Reath scored 23 points for Qingdao.

Trailing 26-18 behind the Beijing Royal Fighters in the first quarter, the Nanjing Monkey Kings overturned the momentum in the second quarter and went 50-46 in front as Wang Lanqin and Lin Wei hit consecutive 3-pointers.

Nanjing stretched its lead to double digits in the second half and did not let the victory slip away, thanks to five players scoring in double digits.

Robert Golden notched a game-high 29 points for the Beijing Royal Fighters, while Lual Acuil registered a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds for Nanjing.

Also on Tuesday, the Jiangsu Dragons edged the Guangzhou Loong Lions 101-100, the Xinjiang Flying Tigers defeated the Tianjin Pioneers 103-91, the Shandong Heroes stormed the Shanghai Sharks 106-87, and the Liaoning Flying Leopards edged the Jilin Northeast Tigers 92-85.
