No. 6 seed Caroline Garcia won the WTA Finals, beating Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 7-6 (4), 6-4 in Fort Worth, Texas on Monday night.
With the victory, Garcia became the second Frenchwoman to win the season-ending event since Amelie Mauresmo, who beat compatriot Mary Pierce in 2005.
"Today was an amazing final, so much intensity on every single point," Garcia said after the match.
The 29-year-old from Lyon is also the oldest WTA Finals titleholder after Serena Williams, who won the championships at 33 in 2014.
Though Garcia had ranked within the world's top 10 in 2017, her ranking fell to the mid-70s back in June 2022 due to injuries. This year, Garcia won all the finals she played, fighting her way back to the pinnacle. Her ranking further rose to world No. 4 after the match.
