The Beijing municipal advisory body recently set up a research group on the sustainable use of facilities used during the 2022 Winter Olympics.

After visiting the Winter Olympic venues, the Olympic Village, and other supporting facilities, the research group made a report of their conclusions, suggesting further exploration of the Olympics legacy to promote the ice and snow industry and improve national fitness.

The research group said they believe that the sustainable use of the Olympics legacy is expected to bring new growth momentum to the Chinese capital. The report advises transforming the venues of the Olympic Games into Beijing's new landmarks, tourist destinations, and platforms for international exchange.

To boost the utilization of the venues, the research group suggested expanding the scope of activities held in those places to include entertainment and exhibitions, and holding influential international events to develop those venues into a platform of international exchange.

To promote the ice and snow sport and nurture an environment for winter sports to thrive, the research group said the Olympic venues should be more accessible to young people, women, the elderly, people with disabilities, teachers, and doctors.

Besides hosting major sports events and serving as training bases, the venues should organize more open day and experience events during students' winter and summer breaks as well as other public holidays to promote winter sports to the general public, the research group said.
