The Guangdong Southern Tigers extended their winning streak to 13 games after defeating the Tianjin Pioneers 102-91, while the Sichuan Blue Whales beat the Jilin Northeast Tigers 114-110 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Wednesday.

After their previous 12 straight wins, Guangdong decided to let their legendary veteran Yi Jianlian sit on the bench for a night. Marshon Brooks hit two three pointers to lead Guangdong start the game with 10-2.

However, Tianjin soon surpassed thanks to Lin Ting-Chien's five straight points, and was able to keep the lead in the first three quarters.

Hu Mingxuan's three pointer helped Guangdong overtake and Marshon Brooks continued to attack the rim to secure the win after a 28-14 fourth quarter.

"Our lead in the fourth quarter changed the attitude of our players. Their urge to win the game reduced their execution of offense and defense. I think they have a lot to learn from the strong teams," commented Zhang Qingpeng, who became Tianjin's coach a week ago.

Playing for 50 minutes and 12 seconds, Dominique Jones had his fifth triple double in five games in a row, but his 44 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and four steals were still not enough for Jilin to beat Sichuan.

Marlain Veal hit the crucial free throws to make sure Sichuan lead by four with 11 seconds left before Jiang Weize missed a three pointer attempt.

The winner wasn't happy either as their center Hamed Haddadi fell down in the game and was carried off on a stretcher. The 37-year-old was later diagnosed with an Achilles tendon rupture.

In the other games on Wednesday, the Nanjing Monkey Kings upset the Zhejiang Golden Bulls 114-91, the Beijing Ducks beat the Beijing Royal Fighters 82-75 in a Beijing derby, and the Liaoning Flying Leopards defeated the Fujian Sturgeons 104-87.
