Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States equaled the women's record for the most FIS World Cup victories as she won for the 82nd time in a giant slalom race in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia on Sunday.

The 27-year-old is now tied with compatriot Lindsey Vonn, who set the record at age 33, after dominating Sunday's race to win by 0.77 seconds over Italy's Federica Brignone. Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami finished third.

Shiffrin, who won her first World Cup race at 17 in 2012, told the FIS website after the race, "I can't believe it. I was so nervous this run, I have a rash on my face because I was so nervous."

As usual, Shiffrin led from the first race and extended her advantage in the second for an easy win.

She has won 51 slalom, 17 giant slalom, five super-G, three downhill, three city events, two parallel slalom and one Alpine combined races for her 82 World Cup wins.
