Nuis wins men's 1,500m at ISU Speed Skating World Cup

Dutch skater Kjeld Nuis claimed the men's 1,500m gold at the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland on Friday.

Nuis crossed the line with 1:46.71 on the clock. His compatriot Patrick Roest finished third in 1:47.62, while Norwegian Peder Kongshaug took the silver in 1:47:41. China's Ning Zhongyan finished 10th in 1:48.56.

Kim Min-sun of South Korea was the best finisher in the women's 500m, followed by Vanessa Herzog of Austria and American Kimi Goetz, with former world champion Li Qishi of China coming in 19th.

In the women's 3,000m race, Norwegian Ragne Wiklund stood on top of the podium with the result of 4:05.96, followed by Czech skater Martina Sablikova in 4:06.04 and Marijke Groenewoud of the Netherlands in 4:07.18. China's Han Mei and Yang Binyu finished 10th and 13th respectively.

In the last competition of the day, Norway won the men's team pursuit, followed by the United States and the Netherlands.

Friday was the opening day of the ISU World Cup Speed Skating in Poland, which gets underway through this weekend.
