The Qingdao Eagles had a narrow win against the Tianjin Pioneers 99-93, while the Guangdong Southern Tigers stormed past the Jiangsu Dragons 127-96 in the 2022-2023 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Monday.

Qingdao started as they meant to go on, powering through an 8-0 scoring run to end the first quarter with a seven-point lead. The second quarter saw both teams lose their rhythm as neither scored over 20 points.

Qingdao still struggled in offense in the second half, and Tianjin seized the chance to overturn the tide in the third quarter, led by Quinndary Weatherspoon. However, Qingdao showed their tenacity through pressed defense in the key moment of the last quarter and retook the lead after an 11-2 scoring dash. Finally, Wang Hong hit a long jumper to help Qingdao nail down the win.

Five players from Qingdao scored double digits, led by Wang Ruize's 21 points. Weatherspoon had a game-high 22 points.

Against Jiangsu, Guangdong won by seven points in each of the first two quarters by virtue of their tacit team cooperation. Although Zhao Shuaizhou scored 27 points in the first half, his teammates failed to provide enough support.

As Zhao confronted a tighter defense in the second half, Jiangsu saw no chance to turn the tables.

Zhao notched a game-high 37 points from 16 shots. Six players from Guangdong scored double digits, led by Marshon Brooks' 21.

Also on Monday, the Zhejiang Lions beat the Beijing Royal Fighters 110-90, while the Guangzhou Loong Lions edged the Nanjing Monkey Kings 113-110.
