Crystal Palace have reappointed veteran Roy Hodgson as their first team coach with the aim of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

The 75-year-old former England, Fulham and Liverpool coach, who will be 76 in August, returns to the club he left after four years in charge in July 2021, when Patrick Viera was named as his replacement.

Viera was sacked by Palace last Friday after a run of just one win in 12 games left them without a win in 2023 and in apparent freefall towards the relegation zone.

Hodgson is seen as a safe pair of hands to try and help the club avoid a costly drop into the Championship.

Hodgson already holds the record as the oldest coach to ever work in the Premier League and his return to the club extends that record.

"It is a privilege to be asked to return to the club, which has always meant so much to me, and to be given the important task of turning the team's fortunes around. Our sole objective now is to start winning matches, and to get the points necessary to ensure our Premier League status," Hodgson said.
