Chengdu Universiade: China's swimmers clinch 4 golds, break 2 FISU records

On Wednesday, marking the fifth day of competition at the Chengdu Universiade, Team China continued its winning streak by securing four gold medals in swimming events.

Zhang Yufei, a student at Southeast University of China and the 200m butterfly gold winner at the Tokyo Olympics, seized the spotlight with an outstanding performance in the women's 50m butterfly, claiming gold with a FISU record time of 25.20 seconds. The victory also marked Zhang's third gold medal at this year's Universiade.

Qin Haiyang from Tongji University, who won four gold medals in the recent World Aquatics Championships, showcased his dominance by winning the men's 100m breaststroke gold with an impressive time of 58.92 seconds.

Liu Yaxin from Shanghai Jiao Tong University seized the gold in the women's 200m backstroke with 2:08.18.

The excitement reached its peak in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, where Wang Gukailai, Qin Haiyang, Zhang Yufei and Li Bingjie joined forces. Together, they not only secured the gold medal with a time of 3:44.02, but also shattered the existing Universiade record.

Speaking after the victorious relay, Qin said: "Each of us performed exceptionally well. Today's achievements are the result of the relentless pursuit of excellence demonstrated by the Chinese swimming team and our collective efforts. Years of dedication have culminated in this remarkable outcome."
