Over half of the games on the Universiade schedule had concluded by noon on Aug. 3, according to Liu Guorong, full-time deputy director of the Sports Competition Department of the Executive Committee of the Chengdu FISU World University Games.

Out of 18 events, five have been completed, including archery, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, shooting sports, and Wushu. Twelve events, such as athletics, artistic gymnastics, badminton, and basketball, are currently underway, with intense competition. The final rowing event is scheduled to take place on Aug. 4.

Asian countries have demonstrated remarkable performances, occupying the top positions in the medal tally. China leads in both the gold and overall medal counts.

As of Aug. 2, a total of 382 medals had been awarded across all completed events, comprising 111 gold, 112 silver, and 159 bronze medals. China had secured 36 gold, 12 silver, and 12 bronze medals, ranking first in the medal tally at that time.

By Wednesday evening, the event had witnessed five instances of athletes breaking Universiade records. Notably, Chinese swimmers set new records in four swimming categories, and the Indian delegation broke the men's 10-meter air rifle team record in shooting.

Liu Guorong stated that during the Chengdu Universiade, spectators witnessed the youthful energy of university students from around the world and the determination of athletes striving for excellence.

The competition also provided numerous heartwarming moments. He cited an example of Iranian and Turkish taekwondo athletes in the men's 73-kilogram category embracing and encouraging each other after the finals. He also mentioned a marriage proposal by Chinese taekwondo athlete Hu Mingda to teammate Liang Jie after the award ceremony.

"These vivid examples allow us to fully experience the friendly competitive atmosphere where opponents on the field transform into friends off the field," Liu said.
