Carlos Tevez is among the frontrunners to assume the vacant head coaching position at Independiente, according to media reports in Argentina.
Tevez, 39, has held talks with Independiente directors and could be confirmed as the new manager as soon as Tuesday, TyC Sports reported.
The position became available on Sunday when Ricardo Zielinski stepped down after a 1-0 home defeat to Colon on the opening weekend of the new Argentine top-flight season.
Tevez has not worked as a manager since ending a five-month spell in charge of Rosario Central last December.
The former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus forward retired in 2021 after a 20-year professional career that included 76 Argentina caps.
