Real Madrid has suffered a setback with the news that the hamstring injury sustained by Brazilian forward, Vinicius Jr is more serious than at first suspected.
Vinicius went off after 16 minutes of his side's 1-0 win away to Celta Vigo on Friday night after suffering a problem in his right hamstring and although early indications were that it was only a slight problem, tests carried out on Monday have shown otherwise.
The forward has torn his right hamstring, confirmed the Real Madrid website and is likely to be out of action for around six weeks.
"Following tests carried out on Vini. Jr by the Real Madrid Medical Services, the player has been diagnosed with an injury to the right biceps femoris muscle. His progress will be monitored," reports the club's official website.
That means he will miss next weekend's home game against Getafe and Brazil's games in the subsequent international break. He is also likely to miss a difficult league game at home to Real Sociedad and the Madrid derby away to Atletico Madrid, as well as his side's first two games in the group stage of the Champions League.
Although Real Madrid brought in Joselu as cover over the summer, the fact they lost Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz, leaves them slightly short of forward players and Vinicius' injury leaves only Joselu and Rodrygo as specialist forwards, although Jude Bellingham has shown his effectiveness in scoring goals from midfield, with four in the first three games of the season.
