China's Zheng Qinwen and Zhu Lin both reached the women's singles semifinals, while Zhang Zhizhen was given an early scare before progressing through to last four of the men's singles at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Wednesday.

Top seed Zheng claimed a 7-6 (4), 6-0 victory over Park So-hyun of South Korea in the quarterfinals to set up a clash with Alex Eala of the Philippines, while No. 2 seed Zhu defeated South Korea's Han Na Lae 7-6(3), 6-3 to play against Haruka Kaji of Japan next.

"Park started the game aggressively. I made some mistakes but adjusted quickly," Zheng said. "I just concentrated on each point in the tie-break, which set the pace for a clear victory in the end."

Confronting Sumit Nagal of India, Zhang lost a tense tiebreak in the opening set but regained momentum soon to secure a 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-2 win.

The 26-year-old Zhang will face 13th seeded Khumoyun Sultanov of Uzbekistan in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Wu Yibing, who had been eliminated from the men's singles tournament, suffered another setback when he and Zhang went down to Indian pair Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-1, 7-6(8) in the quarterfinals of the men's doubles.
