Chinese boxer Wang Peicheng lost to world champion Shymbergenov at Hangzhou Asiad

Chinese boxer Wang Peicheng was defeated by world champion Aslanbek Shymbergenov of Kazakhstan in the round of 16 of the men's 71kg category at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Thursday, while his teammates Zhang Jiamao and Yang Wenlu claimed victories to both reach the last eight in the men's 51kg and women's 60kg respectively.

The 21-year-old Wang was unlucky in the draw as he faced Shymbergenov, the world and Asian champion as well as the runner-up of the 2018 Asian Games. Shymbergenov won by 4-0.

In other events, Zhang beat Nguyen Minh Cuong of Vietnam 5-0 in the men's 51kg, and Yang beat Ha Thi Linh of Vietnam 5-0 women's 60kg.

"I'm satisfied with my performance today, and my aim here is simple, just winning the champion," said Yang.

The boxing competition at the Hangzhou Asian Games will continue until October 5, with 237 boxers from 38 countries and regions competing for 13 gold medals.
