Accumulating four points after five rounds, Wuhan was out ahead of the match, while Pohang Steelers with a winning streak of five games, had secured a slot in the top 16 teams.

In the first half, both sides managed to shoot with long volleys, but neither could get on the scoresheet. In the 50th minute, the 19-year-old Lee Gyu-Baeg had the misfortune to put the ball into his own net after Wuhan's Jiang Zhipeng passed the ball to the penalty area. 27 minutes later, Ho-Jae Lee headed home with a goal to level the game 1-1.

Elsewhere, Hanoi FC defeated Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1.
