The 34-year-old Germany international, who joined the Bavarians as a 10-year-old and played his way through all Bayern's youth teams, has put pen to paper on a fresh deal until June 2025.

"Thomas Muller belongs to Bayern like the Frauenkirche to Munich," said Bayern president Herbert Hainer. "He was born just outside the city, grew up in this club and became a legend during his active days, only very few people can do that. His path into the history books is paved with records. Bayern has been shaped by many personalities and there will never be a player like Thomas Muller again."

Since his arrival, Muller has lifted a total of 32 titles with Bayern, including 12 Bundesliga championships, six German Cups, and both the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup twice.

"I'm happy that my journey at Bayern continues. I want to do my part to ensure that we remain successful, as a team and as a club. It's important to me to be a building block and help steer the team in the right direction. I want to inspire our fans with goals, assists, my passion for football and hopefully with many more titles," Muller told the club's official homepage.

The forward has made 684 competitive appearances for Bayern and scored 237 goals, providing 261 assists.

Muller is also one of the cornerstones of Germany's national team and has 45 goals in 126 outings, helping Die Mannschaft clinch the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

"We are very pleased that Thomas Muller stays with Bayern for another season. He is a leader on and off the pitch, always a role model and incredibly valuable to the whole team," said sporting director Christoph Freund.

Bayern Munich sit currently second in Germany's top flight. Thomas Tuchel's men clash with Wolfsburg on Wednesday before they go into the winter break until January 12.
