Kevin de Bruyne recovered from a serious injury he suffered early in the season and returned to action with a match-deciding cameo on Saturday when Manchester City came from behind to win 3-2 away to Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Bernardo Silva put City ahead in the 26th minute with a smart backheel, but Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon turned the game around with goals after 35 and 37 minutes.
De Bruyne came on as a 69th minute substitute and needed less than five minutes to level the scores with a fine finish past Martin Dubravka.
The Belgian then gave the assist for Oscar Bobb to snatch the winning goal for the visitors in the 91st minute and lift them into second place, two points behind Liverpool.
Elsewhere, Cole Palmer's penalty on the stroke of halftime gave Chelsea a 1-0 win at home to Fulham in the south-west London derby.
Palmer calmly sent Fulham keeper Bernd Leno the wrong way from the spot after Raheem Sterling went down following a slight contact in the Fulham penalty area.
Both teams had chances to add to the score in the second half, with Chelsea twice hitting the woodwork through Sterling and Conor Gallagher.
Fulham coach Marco Silva complained after the game that Chelsea defender Malo Gusto was only given a yellow and not a red card for a high challenge on Fulham forward Willian in the first half.
Burnley were denied a vital win in their relegation battle at home to Luton by a controversial late goal on Friday night.
Zeki Amdouni sent Burnley ahead in the 36th minute and the home side looked to be holding on for their fourth win of the season until the injury time when Carlton Morris leveled for Luton with a header. Burnley players appealed for a foul after keeper James Trafford looked to be clearly obstructed by Luton's Elijah Adebayo.
"He (Adebayo) takes two steps back into the keeper. If everyone can do this then I will tell my strikers to. It's very difficult to hide my frustration," commented an angry Burnley coach Vincent Kompany after the game.
