AC Milan suffered a Coppa Italia exit in midweek, losing 2-1 to Atalanta, while Roma were also eliminated by city-rivals Lazio.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 11th minute when Yacine Adli got the ball on the edge of the box before shaking off a defender to finish with a low strike. It is his first goal in a Milan jersey.

The Rossoneri doubled the lead in the 56th minute when Simon Kjaer nodded for Olivier Giroud to steer a header into the net from a close range.

Roma pulled one goal back in the 69th minute through Leandro Paredes' penalty, but Theo Hernandez's blockbuster on Giroud's assist sealed the win for Milan minutes later.

With the win, Milan still sit third with 42 points, eight points ahead of Fiorentina who fought back twice to draw with Udinese 2-2.

Also on Sunday, Lazio registered the fifth consecutive win on all fronts by edging past Lecce 1-0, and Cagliari beat Bologna 2-1.
