Liverpool assured their lead at the top of the Premier League on Saturday with a 3-1 win at home to struggling Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp's side was able to withstand the pressure placed on them by Manchester City's win at home to Everton earlier in the day to overcome their relegation threatened rivals for three important points.

Diogo Jota put Liverpool ahead with a header from a corner in the 31st minute, but Burnley leveled through Dara O'Shea's header just before halftime.

Luis Diaz put Liverpool back ahead in the 52nd minute and Darwin Nunez's 79th minute header assured the points after Burnley had threatened an equalizer.

Two second half goals from Erling Haaland helped Manchester City overcome some stiff resistance from Everton to give his side a 2-0 win at the Ethiad Stadium.

Everton held on for 71 minutes until Haaland's first time finish and he then ran through on goal to add another in the 85th minute to seal the win.

Tottenham scored a 96th minute winner to take all three points at home to Brighton, who took the lead thanks to Pascal Gross' 17th minute penalty.

Pape Sarr drew Tottenham level after 61 minutes and Son Heung-min returned to action after the goal following his time at the Asian Cup. The South Korean helped set up Brennan Johnson to slip the ball home for the wining goal in the sixth minute of injury time.

Newcastle United won a five-goal thriller away to Nottingham Forest thanks to two goals from Bruno Guimaraes.

His volley put Newcastle ahead, but Anthony Elanga quickly leveled for the home side. Fabian Schar put Newcastle back in front, but Callum Hudson-Odoi's deflected strike equalized again for Forest at the end of a topsy-turvy first half.

The home side thought they should have had a penalty after Martin Dubravk caught striker Taiwo Awonii with his arm, but neither referee nor VAR saw an infraction and Guimaraes' second of the night midway through the second half was decisive.

Luton missed a great chance to put space between themselves and the relegation zone when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to bottom of the table Sheffield United.

The visitors went 2-0 up through Cameron Archer and James McAtee's penalty after 30 and 36 minutes, before Carlton Morris got them back into the game in the 52nd minute with another penalty.

Luton threatened for 20 minutes, before Vinicius Souza's 72nd minute effort put the match beyond their reach.

Christian Norgaard and Ivan Toney scored to give Brentford three vital points with a 2-0 win away to Wolverhampton, who were surprisingly flat after recent impressive displays, while Rodrigo Muniz scored twice as Fulham won a mid-table game 3-1 at home to Bournemouth.

Arsenal visit West Ham and Aston Villa host Manchester United on Sunday, while Crystal Palace entertain Chelsea in a key game for both sides.
