Chinese male shuttlers advance to Asian Team Championships semifinals

Chinese shuttlers advanced through the men's quarterfinals of the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships on Friday, while their women's counterparts were ousted.

The Chinese men's team edged Indonesia 3-2 to advance, with singles shuttler Weng Hongyang outplaying Ziko 21-11, 21-11, Lei Lanxi beating Alwi Farhan 21-14, 21-10 and Wang Zhengxing finishing off Johannes Saut Marcellyno 21-15, 24-22, but doubles pairs He Jiting/Ren Xiangyu and Chen Boyang/Liu Yi failing to make the cut.

The Chinese women's team faced off against Japan and lost their quarterfinal in full sets. Han Yue easily beat Ohori Aya 21-8, 21-11 and her compatriot Wang Zhiyi rallied past Nozomi Okuhara 21-14, 22-24, 21-7 in a tough 79-minute match, while Chen Lu lost her singles game and Li Yijing/Luo Xumin and Keng Shuliang/Zhang Chi were defeated in doubles games.

The tournament, a qualifying stage for the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup, offers ranking points for the qualification of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. It runs from February 13 to 18 at the Setia City Convention Center in Shah Alam, Selangor.
