Liverpool ensured they retain their lead at the top of the Premier League with a comfortable 4-1 win away to Brentford on Saturday lunchtime.

Darwin Nunez put Liverpool ahead 10 minutes before halftime, and second half strikes from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah made Liverpool safer before Ivan Toney pulled a goal back for Brentford.

A late goal from Cody Gakpo made it 4-1 for Jurgen Klopp's side, but the Liverpool coach will be worried about an injury suffered by Diogo Jota shortly after he helped Nunez score the opener.

Curtis Jones was also injured in the first half, and Nunez didn't play after the break, although Salah's return is a bonus for Liverpool.

Manchester City dropped two points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Chelsea. Erling Haaland missed two chances.

Former City winger Raheem Sterling scored an excellent opener to put Chelsea ahead in the 42nd minute, and Chelsea showed defensive discipline to keep their rivals at bay until Rodri slotted home a loose ball in the penalty area with eight minutes left.

Arsenal had few problems in keeping pace with Liverpool as they breezed to a convincing 5-0 win away to relegation haunted Burnley.

Martin Odegaard put Arsenal ahead after a pass from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka doubled the lead from the penalty spot four minutes before halftime.

Odegaard was the provider for Sako to score his second of the game, early in the second half, with Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz completing the rout.

Aston Villa climbed over Tottenham into fourth place as two goals from Ollie Watkins gave them a 2-1 win away to Fulham.

Watkins showed his instincts in front of goal in the 23rd and 56th minute, before Rodrigo Muniz pulled a goal back for Fulham midway through the second half.

Joao Gomes was on target twice for Wolves as Gary O'Neil's side continued their impressive season with a 2-1 win away to Tottenham.

Gomes' first goal was a header from a Pablo Sarabia header and his second came after a counter-attack launched by Pedro Neto after Dejan Kulusevski had equalized for Tottenham 30 seconds into the second half.

Matt Ritchie netted a 92nd minute equalizer for Newcastle United to save a point in an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Bournemouth.

Dominic Solanke strengthened his claim for an England call-up with the opening goal and although Anthony Gordon equalized for Newcastle from the penalty spot, it looked as if Antoine Semenyo's 69th minute strike was going to send the points down south until Ritchie's late equalizer.

Struggling Nottingham Forest took three points with a 2-0 win at home to West Ham, who remain without a win in 2024, after Taiwo Awoniyi put the home side ahead, deep into first half injury time, and Callum Hudson-Odoi netted the second in the closing seconds.

Another bad afternoon for West Ham was made worse when Kalvin Phillips was sent off with 15 minutes left to play.
