Jiangsu bags two golds at National Indoor Athletics Prix

Xu Hetong and Wang Zhen won the men's triple jump and high jump for Jiangsu Province respectively at the Chinese National Indoor Athletics Prix here on Saturday.

Xu, 18, won the men's triple jump with 16.31 meters. Jilin’s Luo Jiajun finished second with 16.29m, and Shen Tao of Guangdong came third after marking 16.07m.

Wang, the winner of 2021 China's National Games, reached the highest position of men's high jump with 2.24 meters.

Wang conquered 2.05m, 2.20m and 2.24m en route to his victory. Li Jialun of Heilongjiang who made it on 2.20m, failed to clear 2.24m twice, but chose to try 2.27m which he failed again.

Li took the silver medal. Beijing’s Zhou Houcheng tied Dong Zi'ang of Jiangsu for third place, with both clearing 2.15m.

Shandong shot putter Sun Yue, the runner-up of the National Athletics Championships, led from the first round with 17.34m, and improved it to the winning 17.75m in her third attempt. Ma Yue of Hebei ranked second with 17.01m, Meng Xiangyu of Henan won the bronze with 16.52m.

Wang Chunyu, the women's 800m finalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games, failed to get through the women's 200m and 400m preliminary rounds.

In other actions, Shu Heng of Jilin won the men's long jump with a personal best of 8.11m, while Chen Yanqi of Fujian topped the podium of the women's pentathlon.
