Ahead of its UEFA Champions League duel against Lazio on Tuesday evening, Bayern Munich remains in a state of limbo.

Coach Thomas Tuchel is under fire, along with growing rumors about his early departure before the end of the 2023-24 season.

Media reports talk of the Lazio game as a last chance for the 50-year-old to stay in office after the Bavarians had recently announced to end of their collaboration with Tuchel this summer.

A tense atmosphere has taken hold of the wavering 2020 treble winner, while German record international Lothar Matthaus recommend installing an intermediate solution until the season ends.

Former Bayern midfielder Stefan Effenberg spoke of a growing disparity between Tuchel and Bayern's squad, and assumed the coach has lost the locker room after publicly blaming players.

Amidst the turbulences, Bayern striker Thomas Muller demanded a determined performance, stating the upcoming Champions League clash is a do-or-die issue as Bayern has to make up for a 1-0 defeat in the first leg.

"Let's go for it with heart and soul," the 34-year-old wrote on social media. "I am convinced we will act with full force."

Meanwhile, media reports speak of Bayern's management favoring Tuchel's stay until the end of the season if further setbacks are excluded, as the reigning German champion is facing its first season without a title since 2012.

The club's newly-appointed board member, Max Eberl, is trying to keep bits and pieces together while looking for a coach to take over in the summer coming along with triggering a squad re-launch.

A report spoke about Bayern's interest in Feyenoord coach Arne Slot, next to already mentioned options like Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso and Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness.

Proceeding to the next round in the Champions League might ease tensions for the moment and nourish the option to continue until the end of the season for Bayern and its coach.
