Real Sociedad has a season-defining game on Tuesday when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the return leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit.

The match comes on the back of a difficult nine days for the San Sebastian based club, who has lost their last two games in La Liga, as well as suffering a painful defeat after the penalty shootout in the semifinal of the Copa del Rey at home to Mallorca a week ago.

Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil now has the difficult task of lifting his players for another big night, against a rival that has the perfect characteristics to hit them on the break.

Real Sociedad was the better team in the first half in Paris three weeks ago, but paid the price for their high-press as they were visibly tired in the second half, with Kylian Mbappe putting PSG ahead after poor marking from a corner and Bradley Barcola adding a second with 20 minutes left to play.

Alguacil rested several key players in Sevilla on Saturday, with Mikel Oyarzabal, Robin le Normand, Hamari Traore, Takefusa Kubo and Mikel Merino all unused substitutes, while Brais Mendez, Javi Galan and Sheraldo Becker were only used in the second half.

All eight can be expected to start in the Reale Arena on Tuesday as the Basques look to end a run of three consecutive home defeats.

PSG played in Monaco on Friday night and has the advantage of an extra 24 hours to prepare for the game, although there was controversy after coach Luis Enrique took Mbappe off at halftime and the forward opted to sit watching the second half with friends in the stand, rather than with his teammates on the bench.

Mbappe will be the main threat on Tuesday night and if Real Sociedad is to have a chance, they need to snuff out his pace.
