Real Madrid maintain their seven-point lead at the top of La Liga after a 4-0 win at home to struggling Celta Vigo on Sunday afternoon.

Vinicius Jr put Madrid ahead from close range after Vicente Guaita had made an initial save from a corner, and in a game of few chances, they doubled their lead in the 78th minute when Antonio Rudiger's header hit the bar and bounced into the net off Guaita.

Carlos Dominguez put the ball into his own net four minutes later after Guaita failed to reach a Vinicius cross, and Arda Guler scored his first goal for Madrid to round off the win in injury time.

Athletic Club claimed a solid 2-0 win away to Las Palmas. Gorka Guruzeta headed Athletic ahead in the 31st minute and the visitors doubled their lead in the 65th minute after an own goal from Las Palmas defender Santi Coco.

Betis dropped three points in their efforts to return to Europa after a 3-2 defeat to Villarreal.

Guido Rodriguez put Betis ahead, with Alex Baena leveling after 39 minutes before Willian Jose putting Betis back ahead, even though the ball looked to have gone out of play before Pablo Fornals' cross.

An own goal from Sokratis and a goal from Alexander Sorloth saw Villarreal turn things around before Chimy Aliva and Alberto Moreno were both sent off with 20 minutes left to play.

A clever chip from Alaves right back Andoni Gorosabel on the stroke of halftime saw Alaves beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to all but assure their top-flight status for another season.

Gorosabel scored his goal in the first action after the match restarted following a four-minute break after a fan was taken ill in the stands of Alaves' Mendizorroza Stadium.
