Leading the CSL standings, Shenhua seized an opportunity in the 13th minute as Xie Pengfei's direct free-kick found the net after a fumble from Henan goalkeeper Wang Jinshuai. With relentless attacking, Shenhua extended their lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute through Wu Xi's effort.

In the second half, Henan launched rapid counterattacks. In the 93rd minute, Iago Maidana headed home from a corner to halve the deficit, but there was no time for Henan to find an equalizer.
