Flamengo forward Everton Soares will miss the rest of the South American football season after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon, the Rio de Janeiro club said on Monday.
The Brazil international sustained the injury during Flamengo's 1-1 home draw with Palmeiras in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.
Subsequent exams confirmed the attacker's worst fears and he will undergo surgery in the coming days before beginning a rehabilitation period that is expected to take six to eight months.
"I will come back stronger," the 28-year-old said in a brief social media post.
Everton, who has been capped 25 times for Brazil, has scored just 14 goals across all competitions since joining Flamengo from Benfica in 2022.
Flamengo are currently third in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings, two points behind leaders Botafogo.
