Valencia striker Rafa Mir has been detained by the Spanish Civil Guard and is currently in custody facing charges of sexual assault.

The Spanish media informs that Mir is accused of assaulting a 25-year-old woman at his home.

He was detained on Monday and spent the night in the cells before appearing before a judge, with reports saying the Civil Guard made the arrest after declarations on Sunday from the woman and another 21-year-old who witnessed the events.

Mir has just joined Valencia from Sevilla and his club issued a statement on Tuesday, explaining the club was "aware of the arrest, but due to the lack of details over this, all it can do at the moment is stating that it will collaborate with everything that justice could require."
