China's top guns continued to triumph at the Japan Open badminton tournament on Thursday.

Top seed Lin Dan easily surpassed his Danish counterpart with straight-set win: 2-0.

Veteran Chen Hong also moved ahead. He also scored a 2-0 victory over his Indonesian rival, but his win came with a little difficulty.

Chen will face European top player Peter Gade in the next round.

In the women's competition, world champion Xie Xingfang and Athens Olympics champion Zhang Ning have both gone through to the next round.

Xie beat compatriot Chen Li, while Zhang defeated her rival from Singapore.

Three more Chinese female shuttlers have also gone through to the next stage.

Men's doubles duo Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng secured a berth in the quarter finals after a 20-minute game against their Japanese rivals.

In the quarter-finals for the women's doubles, Chinese shuttlers took half of the positions.

There are also three Chinese teams competing in the mixed doubles quarters.
