China has three universities among Asia's top 10 universities, six among the top 20, and 31 among the top 100, according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings released on Monday.
In this year's ranking, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology moves up from second place last year to top the list, while University of Hong Kong drops to the second spot and the National University of Singapore remains in the third place.
Nationally, the strongest performance is by Japan, which has five universities in the top 10, eight in the top 20, and 25 universities in the top 100, led by the University of Tokyo in fourth place.
The QS Asian University Rankings, which has been published annually since 2009, ranks the region's best universities based on a wide range of criteria including research quality, teaching quality, graduates employability and internationalization.
