Aircraft carriers, which act as floating air bases, are the most powerful warships known to man. To own an aircraft carrier, to some extent, is a powerful symbol of a country's military strength. Let's have a glance at the ten most spectacular aircraft carrier battles in the history of modern warfare.

   Falklands War (马岛战争)

Location: Falkland Islands (Spanish:Islas Malvinas), southern Atlantic Ocean Date: 2 April --14 June, 1982

Countries: United Kingdom vs. Argentina

Aircraft carriers: UK: 2 aircraft carriers (HMS Hermes and Invincible) vs Argentina: 1 ("25 of May")

Result: After 74 days of fighting, Argentina surrendered, enabling Britain to retain the islands in its possession. The Royal Navy's use of the two carriers enabled it to conduct amphibious assaults to retake the islands following an invasion by Argentine forces.
