National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC [David Coleman/Alamy] |
Opened in 1976 on the National Mall, the world's largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft houses 50,000 original artefacts, from the Wright brothers' 1903 flyer to a sample of lunar rock that visitors can touch. Kids also love this museum for its flight simulators, 3D space shows at the Albert Einstein Planetarium and cool "How Things Fly" exhibit.
