Founded in 1909, Lanzhou University (LZU) is one of the key universities under China's Ministry of Education, as well as the top university in Northwestern China. Located in Lanzhou, capital city of Gansu Province, LZU offers 86 undergraduate programs, 235 master's programs and 116 doctorate programs in its 23 academic schools. LZU is focused mainly on basic theoretical research, with remarkable outcomes achieved in the fields such as organic chemistry, cell biology, theoretical physics, nuclear physics and technology, magnetics, plant physiology, ecology, basic mathematics, mechanics, natural geography, synoptic dynamics, inorganic chemistry, and analytic chemistry. It has also carried out extensive applied research in past years. It has a teaching faculty of 1,855, of whom, 360 are professors and 735 are associate professors. LZU is reputed one of the top Chinese universities with international academic publications frequently cited by researchers around the world.
