Sichuan University (SCU) is a multi-disciplinary national key university located in downtown Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. It's known as the oldest and largest university in Western China. SCU was created through the merger of 3 famous national universities: the former Sichuan University, the former Chengdu University of Science and Technology, and the former West China University of Medical Sciences. The history of the former SCU can be dated back to Sichuan Zhongxi Xuetang founded in 1896. SCU has undertaken a substantial number of national and ministerial-level research projects, and made great achievements. SCU ranks top among its peers for its strengths in liberal arts, science, engineering and medicine. It also constantly ranks among the top 10 universities in China in terms of overall strength and the number of academic papers annually published.
