Located in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu Province, Southeast University (SEU) is a national key university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China. Its predecessor was the Sanjiang Normal College founded in 1902. SEU is a research-oriented multidisciplinary university with focus on construction, civil engineering, transportation, communications, electronics, biomedicine, automatic control, machinery and art. SEU offers 70 undergraduate programs, 255 master's programs and 164 doctoral programs in its 30 academic schools. It also has 23 post-doctoral programs. SEU features a high-tech research base. It ranked 8th among all domestic research institutes in terms of output in nature journals, according to the Nature Publishing Index 2010 for China released by the UK-based Nature Publishing Group (NPG).
